Meet the founder

Ben berman's story from wharton Mba grad student to philadelphia philanthropist

How It All Started

Before Ben moved to Philadelphia, he spent the majority of his time traveling as a consultant which left him eating on the go. After getting settled into his second floor Philadelphia apartment, Ben knew it was the perfect time to rejuvenate his love and passion for cooking. Ben began hosting dinner parties for friends, where he'd serve homemade pizza. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit Philadelphia in March of 2020, Ben had 10 pizza doughs prepped for a dinner party that would now be indefinitely postponed.

The "Aha moment"

Ben realized that, using some ingenuity, he could safely cook the pizzas and deliver them down to his friends using a pulley system. And thus the famous "pizza drop" was born! Word of Ben's unconventional delivery method caught fire quickly. Ben founded Good Pizza and began doing regular pizza drops and giving away pizzas for free using a lottery system. Then something really, really crazy happened...

Going Viral

David Portnoy, the president of Barstool Sports and the inventor of the viral video series, One Bite, visited Good Pizza! The social media coverage and the glowing review that Portnoy gave Ben's handmade pizza put Good Pizza on the map overnight. Good Pizza gained thousands of Instagram followers, and the popularity of Ben's pizza and the Good Pizza cause continues to grow.

THE WHY

Ben founded Good Pizza because he saw an awesome opportunity to do what he loves and help the city he loves at the same time. Ben donates all proceeds he receives from Good Pizza to charities that directly impact the Philadelphia community, like Philabundance, Project HOME, and Share Food Philly. Good Pizza puts a smile on everyone's face, and Ben's been able to raise tens of thousands of dollars for charity since beginning his pizza-making journey.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

If you're lucky enough to get selected as a Good Pizza lottery winner, the pizza you receive is 100% free. Ben asks that anyone who can donate, does, and you can easily send your donation via venmo. You can also shop Good Pizza merchandise, or partner with Ben by offering donations to help him make his pizza and keep the Good Pizza cause going!
